Up & Over
The door: This one-piece panel design is a popular choice. Just as its name suggests, it opens simply by twisting and pulling the handle and it goes up and over into your garage opening. You can also have a remote control added, which means you don’t even need to step out of your car to open your garage.
The cost: It tends to be a more cost-effective option, coming in at the lower end of the budget.
The design: There’s lots of choice when it comes to colour and design, from traditional Georgian-style to contemporary lines and there are optional extras such as upgraded handles and additional security systems.
Installation: If you opt for a standard colour, these doors are in stock and can be installed within 2 weeks of ordering.
Roller
The door: Roller doors consist of insulated aluminium laths that lift vertically, but rather than going back into the garage space, they roll up into a box above the opening. These are perfect for smaller garages. Ensuring no space is wasted in front of or inside your garage, Roller doors fold away neatly, and leave your garage ceiling clear.
Operation: As standard, these doors are automatically operated, meaning they can be opened or closed with a small and discreet remote control. They are also installed with a control panel inside your garage, which has a start and stop button and an automatic light when it’s in use and manual overrides can be fitted in the case of a power failure. Roller doors are quiet and if well-maintained, offer a smooth operation, ensuring that the people in your home aren’t disturbed by the doors opening and closing.
Insulation: The extra benefit of insulation means that it keeps the heat inside your garage and the cold out – all the more important if you have an integral garage.
Flexibility: They can be fitted inside, in-between and outside the garage door opening too, meaning they are extremely flexible and suit most homes and they come in a range of finish and colour.
Sectional
The door: Sectional garage doors are built in panel sections that open and slide upwards, and then curve back into the garage on horizontal rails.
Space-saving: The great thing about these doors is the space that they save as an alternative to up & over doors. There’s no loss of driveway space in front of the garage and they provide full opening drive-through width, giving extra room for larger vehicles.
The design: These doors can add an ultra-stylish finish to your home and are available in a range of finish and colour – some designs even including windows.
Installation: Sectional doors can be operated electronically via a remote control and manual options can also be installed. They have a longer lead time from ordering through to installation and are at the higher end of the budget, but the quality is so worth it.
Side-hinged
The door: Opening like traditional double swing doors, side-hinged garage doors are perfect for garages that require regular access by homeowners as they are easier and quicker to open and close.
Opening choices: They open outwards and most are manufactured with equal-sized doors (50/50), but you can choose to change that and have a door that’s split into two-thirds and a third-sized doors, making your main entry door more of a standard-sized door.
Security: These doors are equipped with shoot bolt latches for extra security and weather seals and you can choose to have a level handle inside and out or for added security an outside knob in also available.
The design: A wide range of choice, design and colour is also available for side-hinged doors, adding the perfect quality finish to your home.
